El Capitan - Mescalito

Mescalito was the first time I really went for it. I remember being freaked out several days into the climb, and still not being able to see the top. I think I spent 12 days on this route. It is so good, I've climbed it twice, both solo.

This is my favorite part of the cliff. Vertical, beautiful, golden granite. In the bottom right of the photo is lay lady ledge.

Middle Cathedral and El Cap Meadow.

Some views from the portaledge.

This is the Bismarck ledge. Perfectly flat and perched way up in the sky. I spent an entire rest day here. It is also notorious for the offwidth pitch above, in which I used 2x4 blocks, big cams and tube chocks.

High on El Cap, alone, in the moment and completely unplugged from the world below. That was my happy place.
